When he falls madly in love with the lovely Christine Daae, a talented young soprano who was orphaned at the age of 7. The Phantom devotes himself to creating Christine into the new star for the Opera, exerting a strange sense of control over the young soprano as he nurtures her extraordinary talents. Even though The Phantom loves her, her heart belongs to someone else, Raoul de Chagney, the new patron of The Opera Populare. Christine and Raoul had been childhood sweethearts until her father died. Once they are back together, Raoul proposes to Christine, which inturn makes The Phantom broken hearted. So by force he takes Christine into his lair where he makes her make the dession of life or death for Raoul, by either choosing to stay with The Phantom and letting Raoul live or Refusing The Phantom's wishes and send Raoul to his death.
