However, certain situations call for the "cootie shot", which can be administered in a variety of ways. The most common is to draw two circles and two dots with a finger on one's arm, while saying the rhyme "circle, circle/dot, dot/now I've got my cootie shot." This can be used as a vaccine against future cooties, or as an antidote to make up for cooties one might have already acquired. "Circle/circle square/square, now I've got it everywhere" protects the person's entire body. The other variation of the cootie shot is for the infectee to quickly grab the nearest pen or pencil in their immediate vicinity and to apply the tip of said pen or pencil to their arm as if using a hypodermic needle (though, obviously, with no actual penetration of the skin).
