The History of eCrtters

In ancient times, as Crittannian legend states, before eCritters came to be, the planet itself was covered almost entirely with water, as temperatures were said to be static, caught in a seemingly eternal heat wave. Only a single island existed, seemingly and actually willed into existence by mysterious forces. The island and world itself was empty and dead, except for powerful beings that had created the island. eCritters consider them gods of the past, though they may simply have been multi-dimensional beings that were capable of things that seem impossible in our universe. It is said that they were creations of perfection itself, a perfect balance between light and darkness that no human or eCritter could ever hope to understand. After centuries of living in a barren, life-less world, it is said they created eCritters in their loneliness.

They first created wonderful aquatic eCritters, and plants to sustain them... many with hidden medicinal purposes. They then made more islands like their own, and one large continent named Thiboria, though none could compare with their small island, which was considered sacred even then. They changed the very nature of the planet and its solar system, and brought the world seasons, and different environments. With new varying climate, the beings could now create many eCritters adapted to the different regions. From deserts to forests, eCritters were created that could thrive in most places in their world. In the beginning, the beings were teachers, sharing wisdom with their creations, but things soon changed.

No eCritter legend states exactly how it happened, but somehow the beings were corrupted by their own creations; the perfect balance of light and darkness was destroyed. It happened swiftly, and soon even the sacred island had vanished. In the ensuing chaos, a scapegoat was found in one canine (in appearance) specie, that happened to be the only specie to inhabit the chain of islands near the sacred island. At the time, all eCritters were herbivores, and most stayed well out of each other's territories, but in a rage, the eCritters drove them out of their home, and attempted (but failed) to destroy them entirely. They were left without any source of food to call their own, and driven out of any area they entered by their inhabitants, they found a new way to survive. eCritters are a lot more versatile than animals could ever be, possibly because they were created to be that way, so they adapted almost instantly. They became Crittannia's first carnivores.

And so Crittannia settled into a pattern of existence that slowly changed over time. Eventually, a few more species became carnivores when their own preferred types of food became scarce. Some eCritters of different species started to share their territories, while others became fierce rivals. Always intelligent, they often tried to find easier ways to survive, but none had any desire to change the very nature of their world... until human beings arrived.

When they first arrived, they had been both thrilled and disappointed. They had, indeed, discovered life beyond the Earth, but it was not as advanced as they had hoped. They had already searched hundreds of planets for suitable conditions for themselves, and received the fact that the first one they found was already inhabited with mixed feelings.

They had ruined their own planet, the Earth, and had begun the search for planets for two reasons; they wanted a new planet to inhabit, or for a technologically advanced race to help them with their own world's problems. A suitable world already inhabited, however poses a problem. How could they claim a world for themselves if intelligent life already existed on it? They were left with three choices:
They could enslave eCritters, and use them to build a new society for themselves,
they could befriend them and share the world,
or they could simply tolerate them and continue with plans for settlement.

This choice is also your own, human. Enslave, Befriend, or Tolerate?
