From General Wescquote]Ever body in the USA Saw what happened >< To the twin towers and the people in the tower were Calling love one to say there good bye
I saw that over 130 000 people died yesterday.

Of course, they're not as important, right?

From Howl_Of_Wolf:well was that a national disaster that we will mourn on every day of that well....day? huh?

From 3 Years Since The Towers Fell: A few of my dad's friends died in that attack but I found the speech bush gave 9-11-01 That afternoon
Good evening.

Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes or in their offices: secretaries, business men and women, military and federal workers, moms and dads, friends and neighbors.

Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.

The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness and a quiet, unyielding anger.

These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation.

Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.

America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world.

I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.

America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world and we stand together to win the war against terrorism.

Tonight I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: ``Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for you are with me.''

This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time.

None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

Thank you. Good night and God bless America.

From 3 Years Since The Towers Fell:3 years ago tommorow something happened something that would shatter lives and displace hope. Thousands lost their lives as others died trying to save those same lives,September 11,th was a day none of us will ever forget but as time goes on though we may still mourn life is reborn and as I mourn for heroes as well as civilians who died that day and in it's wake I will never ever forget the fateful September day.

From lobbyquote]You mean the 11th and also you just said that the 140 000 people died in 9 11 you are confusiing me
No he doesn't. He meant the 10th.

No, he said 'why are you remembering those 3 000 but not the 140 000 who died on September 10,2001?'

At no point did he say, 'why are you remembering those 3 000 but not the 140 000 who died on September 11, 2001?'

From Lobby:I remember seeing it on TV. I was liike. "Big deal." I was home ALONE.

From General Wecsquote]well was that a national disaster that we will mourn on every day of that well....day? huh?
Let's look at what you seem to be saying:
* We sohuld mourn national disasters.
* 3 000 people dying is a national disaster because that's a lot of people to die.
* 140 000 people dying (6 690 of them Americans) dying is not a national disaster.

Why is 3 000 people dying a national disdaster, but 140 000 people dying not a national disaster. More Americans died yesterday than died in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Why wasn't yesterday a national disaster? Why don't you mourn those people as much as your mourn the others?

'Sobering' 9/11 memorial
Third anniversary of attacks will be marked by somber rembrances

Saturday, the third anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center will be one of somber remembrance bounded by touchstones of ritual: four moments of silence, the reading of the names of the 2,749 who died and shimmering twin beams of light.

The city's official observance will begin at the lower Manhattan site at 8:40 a.m., when bagpipers and drummers march before the World Trade Center flag and the Young People's Chorus of New York City sings the national anthem.

At 8:46 a.m., the time American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower, Mayor Michael Bloomberg will introduce the first of four moments of silence. A statewide moment of silence, proclaimed by Gov. George Pataki, will be observed at the same time.

Houses of worship throughout the city have been asked to toll their bells at that time.

Then, as at anniversary observances the past two years, the names of those who perished will be read. This year, 200 parents and grandparents of the victims will appear in pairs, with each person reading about 14 names.

As the names are read, family members will be able to walk down a ramp to the lowest level of the site, seven stories below ground level, and place flowers and other mementos.

Wednesday's rain flooded the area. Steve Coleman, spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the property, said Friday: "We had crews out 'round the clock. The section primarily used by the families is dry."

During the ceremony, three more moments of silence will be observed: at 9:03, when United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower; at 9:59, when the South Tower fell; and at 10:29, when the North Tower fell.

After the final name, trumpeters from the police and fire departments will play "Taps."

Pataki, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey also will participate in the program.

The "Tribute in Light" -- the popular symbol that first appeared in March 2002 for a month, and shone again on the night of Sept. 11, 2003 -- will return for one night in remembrance of those who were lost on Sept. 11 as well as those who worked to get the city back on track. The lights will be turned on beginning at sunset, about 7:11 p.m., and fade at dawn Sunday.

At the site on Friday, Gail Benton surveyed the 16 acres that held the 110-story towers.

"It is very sobering to come here and think about the people who used to work here," said Benton, 56, who was visiting from Florida. "I hope they rebuild this with some kind of statement for them."
